Mission Statement: KCA’s mission is to provide a strong proactive voice for all of Kentucky’s beef farm families, serve as a resource for information and education for producers, consumers and the industry and be a catalyst for enhancing producer sustainability.
The Kentucky Cattlemen's Association, a grassroots organization with 99 chapters in 120 counties, works to protect, advance and be a strong voice for the state's 32,000 + cattle producers.
In our office, there are many different branches that work cohesively together: Kentucky Beef Network, Beef Solutions, Kentucky Cattlemen's Beef, Kentucky Beef Council, and the Livestock Advertising Network.
The Kentucky Beef Council is an organization working for the cattle producers of Kentucky in areas of promotion, education and research. The Beef Checkoff funds these programs. The Checkoff is a $2.00 per head collection, which is placed on all Kentucky cattle when they are sold. Fifty cents out of every Checkoff dollar collected goes to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board in Centennial, CO., which oversees Checkoff programs. The remaining $1.50 cents stays in Kentucky to fund state coordinated activities.
The Kentucky Beef Council office is located in Lexington, in the same building as the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association (the membership division of Kentucky’s beef industry). The Kentucky Cattlemen's Association serves as the "certified state beef council" collecting the checkoff funds and placing them in the KBC's account to be used for promotion, research, consumer information, producer communications, and industry information. |
The Kentucky Beef Network, LLC. (KBN) is a division of the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association that focuses on assisting beef cattle producers, improve animal health, genetics, forages, and marketing opportunities by enhancing producer profitability. All 38,000 cattlemen in Kentucky have the opportunity to benefit from programs and services offered through the KBN. |
In 2013 the Kentucky Beef Network assumed management responsibilities for the Eden Shale Farm. The farm consists of 961 acres, which includes 500 acres of forages. The forages are used for multiple demonstrations, research projects and are home to Eden Shale’s commercial cowherd which represents a typical Kentucky cow calf operation. The cattle are managed in a way that places emphasis on environmental stewardship and best management practices, that include centralized watering points, winter feeding, water harvesting and wind solar energy, among other emerging practices that are feasible for producers to implement on their own farms.
